Reality: Council tax records and the electoral register contain different information. Council tax records hold the name of the bill payer, but not necessarily all the people who live at the property. For this and many other legal reasons, the electoral registration officer is not allowed to take names from council tax and add them to the electoral register.

Council Tax bills for the financial year starting on 1 April, are posted by mid March to ensure sufficient notice is provided for the first instalment payable on 1 April.
A copy of this bill can be provided on request if you have not received it or you can sign up to self service to see your council tax bill online.

The data included details of people who were liable for council tax in South Staffordshire during the relevant financial years. Specifically this data included:
a. The full name and title of the first person detailed on the council tax bill. If more than one person was liable for the council tax it only included the name of the first person.
b. The council tax account reference number
c. The property reference number
d. The amount of council tax payable

I am moving house, how do I update my council tax records?
To update your council tax records, all you need to do is complete our change of address form. Change of Address (sstaffs.gov.uk) and we will so the rest.

I have received my bill but my council tax support/discount has not been applied.
If you have a low income and have received council tax support that does not appear on your current bill, please contact our Benefits section on 01902 696668 to check the status of this.

Council Tax Support
Council Tax Support is NOT included in Universal Credit.
It is important that your claim for Council Tax Support is made as early as possible. You will need to apply online.
Change in Circumstances
If you currently get Housing Benefit and have a change in your circumstances, it may mean you have to make an online claim for Universal Credit.
You should tell us about the change as normal and we will tell you if this means a new claim for Universal Credit has to be made. To report any changes in circumstances please email Benefits@sstaffs.gov.uk or call 01902 6966668
Please note that if you already receive Housing Benefit and Universal Credit is claimed, your Housing Benefit entitlement will end on the date in which Universal Credit is claimed.
Already receiving Universal Credit
If you are already receiving Universal Credit you will need to contact Universal Credit to report the change in your circumstances. If you are in receipt of Council Tax Support, the Department for Work and Pensions will report any changes in your Universal Credit directly to us.
