Welcome to our 2025 Walking Festival!
We have a range of free and instructor-led walks taking place throughout May which vary in length and difficulty and take place from various locations across the district.
Please arrive 10 minutes before the advertised start time and wear suitable clothes and footwear for the weather.
Monday 5th May 2025 (Coven – Locality 2)
Meeting Place: Fordhouses Cricket Club, Wobaston Road, Fordhouses, Wolverhampton. WV9 5HH.
Please use the car park at the rear of the Club Building. 11am start.
Bluebell Walk - Clewley Coppice (I54) – Distance Approx. 3.0 miles. Duration Approx. 1.5 hours
An easy level walk on paths and roads. No stiles on route.
We will return to the Rainbow Inn, Brewood Road, Coven, WV9 5DH after the walk for refreshments.
Well behaved dogs on leads welcome.

Tuesday 6th May 2025 (Baggeridge – Locality 5)
Meeting Place: Baggeridge Country Park, DY3 4HB car park. 10am start

Baggeridge Circular Walk - Distance Approx. 7.0 miles. Duration Approx. 2.5 hours
Circular walk from Baggeridge through Himley Park, via the Railway Walk to Wombourne, returning to Baggeridge up Battlefield Hill and along the ridge with views over Orton Hill and Penn Common.
Some field tracks and ascents, particularly back into Baggeridge from Wombourne.
Refreshments are available at the Baggeridge Café and toilets facilities are also available on site.
Given the nature of the park and sometimes the weather, good walking shoes/boots are recommended for all walks.

Thursday 8th May 2025 (Bilbrook – Locality 4)
Meeting Place: Joeys Lane, Bilbrook WV8 1JL Free parking. 10am start
Highlights of Codsall and Bilbrook - Distance Approx. 4.0-5.0 miles. Duration Approx. 3 hours
A pleasant walk around Codsall and Bilbrook visiting local landmarks and places of history/interest with a brief information stop at each. Mainly walking on level ground but some elevations and muddy/uneven areas should be expected. Walking boots are highly recommended.
There will be a stop mid walk, please bring your own refreshments.
Following completion of the walk there will be lunch opportunity at the Bull Public House in Codsall for those who wish to join us.

Friday 9th May 2025 (Coven – Locality 2)

The Bront, River Penk & Cornflower Meadow Estate - Distance Approx. 2.5 miles. Duration Approx. 1.5 hours An easy level walk taking in the Cornflower Meadow estate, Penkside, Jacksons Bridge, The Bront and a walk alongside the River Penk

Monday 12th May 2025 (Kinver – Locality 5)
Meeting Place: Sandy Lane entrance to Kinver Edge DY7 6HU - Off road parking at the meeting place.
10am start.
Kinver Edge Walk - Distance Approx. 3.5 miles. Duration Approx. 2.0 hours
Purple route - Moderate climbs & uneven ground.
The route climbs from the war memorial to the toposcope & takes in Kinver Iron Age fort. It continues along the ridge to the North Worcestershire path. (At this point, walkers preferring a shorter walk can return to the starting point via a different route) The purple route continues, passing Vale's Rock & Nanny's Rock, before returning to the war memorial via the fort.
Toilets & refreshments available at the Cafe on the Edge.

Monday 12th May 2025 (Coven – Locality 2)
Meeting Place: Northycote Farm Car Park, Underhill Lane, Bushbury, Wolverhampton WV10 7JF - Entrance is opposite The Bushbury Crematorium. 11am start.
Northycote Park Bluebell Walk - Distance Approx. 3.0 miles. Duration Approx. 1.5 hours.
An easy level walk through the Northycote Park country estate.

Tuesday 13th May 2025 (Penkridge – Locality 1)
Meeting place: Haling Dene Centre, Cannock Road, Penkridge ST19 5DT. 10am start.
There are parking spaces and toilets at the Haling Dene.
Refreshments will be available at the end of each walk.
A choice of two 2nd World War Landmark Walks, to celebrate 80 years since VE Day:
- Walk 1 - Distance Approx. 2.0 miles. Duration Approx 1 hour. Local walk around the village - pointing out signed prison of War Camp and War Memorial at the Church.
- Walk 2 - Distance Approx. 4.0 miles. Duration Approx 2 hours. A longer walk taking the site of old Penkridge RAF Airfield, Penkridge Station and War Memorial at the Church. Walking along the towpath, through fields, including 2 stiles and along a disused railway line. Well behaved dogs on short leads welcome.

Wednesday 14th May 2025 (Wombourne – Locality 5)
Meeting Place: Car park behind Wombourne Civic Centre, Gravel Hill, Wombourne, WV5 9HA. Meet on grass at left-hand end of car park. 2pm start.
Himley Plantation – Distance Approx. 4 miles. Duration Approx 1hr 30mins to 2 hours
A relatively flat walk starting from the centre of Wombourne, reaching the Himley Plantation via the Wombrook, Railway Walk and earthen footpath above the Railway Walk. We cross the Bridgnorth Rd here and ramble around the rather pretty Plantation before returning to the start via the Railway Walk.
Refreshment and toilet facilities are available in Wombourne village.

Toposcope Walk – Distance Approx. 4 miles. Duration Approx. 1hr 30mins to 2 hours
Taking in all the ups and downs of Baggeridge Country Park! There are some steep hills within the park and this walk will show you all of them, from the Toposcope, via Lydiates Hill to Jake’s Ladder.
You will need a reasonable degree of fitness and good walking boots for this walk.
Refreshments are available at the Baggeridge Café and toilets facilities are also available on site.

Monday 19th May 2025 (Coven – Locality 2)
Meeting Place: Bishops Wood Village Hall Car Park, ST19 9FG. (Tong Road and Ivetsey Bank crossroads). 11am start
White Ladies & Boscobel House Walk – Distance Approx. 3.5 miles. Duration Approx. 1hr 30min
A slightly strenuous walk taking in the beautiful ruins of the White Ladies Priory, then on to Boscobell House (Site of the King Charles Royal Oak Tree, this is visible from the footpath but not accessible without paying an entrance fee).

Tuesday 20th May 2025 (Wombourne – Locality 5)
Meeting Place – Car park behind Wombourne Civic Centre, Gravel Hill, Wombourne, WV5 9HA. Meet on grass at left-hand end of car park. 10am start.
Wombourne Canal & Railway Walk – Distance Approx. 5 miles. Duration Approx. 2 hours
A relatively flat walk starting from the centre of Wombourne, reaching the Railway Walk via the Wombrook then going North on the Railway Walk to Blackpit Lane. We cross here to the canal and follow the towpath South to Giggetty Wharf and back to the start via the beautiful Wombrook.
Refreshment and toilet facilities are available in Wombourne village.

Wednesday 21st May 2025 (Grt Wyrley – Locality 3)
Meeting Place – Great Wyrley (Wesley) Methodist Church, Walsall Road (A34), Great Wyrley, WS6 6DP.
Parking available. 10am start.
Boundary Walk to include Memorial Gardens – Distance Approx. 3 miles. Duration Approx. 1hr 30min
(A shorter walk will be available)
The Boundary walk will include lakes and local wildlife, deer have been spotted here on occasion. This walk will incorporate Great Wyrley’s Memorial Gardens, a focal point of the local area which includes a sensory garden, War Memorial and a Memorial to Princess Diana.
Refreshments are available back at the Wesley Methodist Church

Tuesday 27th May 2025 (Essington – Locality 3)
Meeting Place: Essington Pools, Brownshore Lane, Essington, WV11 2AG car park. 10am start
Essington Circular Walk – Distance Approx. 3 miles. Duration Approx. 1hr 30min to 2 hours
This is a relatively flat walk over fields and the old railway line. We will walk across the road from Essington Fruit Farm and past the source of the Berry Brook stream, it maybe muddy.

Wednesday 28th May 2025 (Grt Wyrley – Locality 3)
Meeting Place: Great Wyrley (Wesley) Methodist Church, Walsall Road (A34), Great Wyrley, WS6 6DP. Parking available. 10am start.
Canal Walk – Duration Approx. 1hr 30min (A shorter walk will be available)
This walk follows the route of the old Great Wyrley/Essington Canal, the former towpath is now a beautiful country walk. We will pass small lakes that have become wildlife havens for migrating birds. This walk explores the western end of the village between Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay.
Refreshments are available back at the Wesley Methodist Church.

A circuit of Baggeridge and Himley Great Pool. Some ascents around the woodland in Himley Park.
