South Staffordshire Council is delighted to share that Wheaton Aston has been awarded the prestigious title of Best Large Village – South of the County in the 2024 Best Kept Village Awards! This wonderful accolade, announced last week, celebrates the dedication and community spirit of Wheaton Aston’s residents.
The Best Kept Village Awards recognise communities that excel in cleanliness, upkeep, and community pride. Wheaton Aston’s award highlights the strong support from residents and their commitment to preserving the village's charm. We would also like to congratulate Lapley who were highly commend in the Best Small Village competiton.
In addition to the Best Large Village award, Wheaton Aston was also honoured with the Community Spirit Award 2024, celebrating the village's vibrant community life—evidenced by events, local groups, and the positive impact these have on residents.
Cllr Rob Nelson praised the community effort, saying, “I would like to thank everyone involved and especially the Lapley, Stretton and Wheaton Aston Parish Councillors Renfrew, Smith and Ford who took the lead for their respective wards in the Best Kept Village competition and our superb residents for their efforts throughout the competition.”
Their efforts were supported by the collective efforts of organised groups, individual residents, the council’s Street Scene team and Locality Two Enablers who all offered invaluable contributions helping Wheaton Aston shine in this year’s awards.
These awards are a source of immense pride for Wheaton Aston and a testament to the strength of community collaboration. Visit Wheaton Aston yourself and experience the welcoming atmosphere and community spirit that have made this award possible!
