South Staffordshire Council is delighted to announce the successful completion of major renovations to the boardwalk at Upper Lake in Perton, made possible through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). This essential upgrade will ensure that the boardwalk remains a safe, sustainable, and enjoyable feature for residents and visitors to Perton for years to come.
The project included a complete replacement of the old, worn boards, along with structural improvements to the underlying framework where needed. The newly installed boards, crafted from sustainably sourced premium-grade European Redwood, feature a smooth profile with two non-slip inserts per board. This design not only enhances safety but prevents debris accumulation, making the walkway easier to maintain and more user-friendly.
External contractors managed the installation, which involved safe removal and disposal of the outdated boards, preparation of the site, and installation of the new materials. We appreciate resident’s support whilst this work took place. With these improvements now complete, the boardwalk at Upper Lake in Perton is ready to provide a safe, inviting, and scenic space for all visitors.
Councillor Mike Davies said: “We are thrilled to see the Upper Lake boardwalk fully revitalised and open for the community to enjoy. This project exemplifies our commitment to enhancing public spaces, supporting sustainability, and ensuring accessibility for all. We are grateful to the UKSPF for their support, and we look forward to the boardwalk continuing to serve as a valuable community asset.”
