Our pledge
Through our community leadership role, we are committed to raising awareness and encouraging local people, businesses, and future generations to be smarter about their energy use.
We are also committed to delivering services that are resource efficient, ensuring council buildings and operations use low carbon energy supplies, and are well prepared for the impacts of a changing climate.
Our Climate Change Strategy
The Climate Change Strategy ensures the council meets its statutory environmental duties and looks to capture the opportunities and benefits of tackling climate change. These include savings on energy bills, encouraging renewable energy in the transition to a low carbon economy, strengthening business competitiveness, reducing flood risks, and managing the impacts of extreme weather.
South Staffordshire Council's Climate Change Strategy recognises that our local contribution is part of a wider challenge that involves managing our budgets within available resources as well as influencing and working with partners, and is part of a national and global agenda.

Community activity
Part of South Staffordshire Council's Climate Change Strategy is to raise awareness and encourage our communities to reduce their impact on the environment and act to collectively tackle climate change.
Thanks to the efforts of the Street Scene tree team, Cheslyn Hay leisure centre and the Friends of Bilbrook, 1,500 trees were planted on three sites across the district to help with the local response to climate change.
The native broad leaf trees are funded by the Urban Tree Challenge fund, and were planted at Strawberry Lane Cemetery, Stephenson's Drive Perton and Jubilee Wood Bilbrook.
